Whether you may have an All American Pressure Canner or some other brand of pressure cooker canner, there are a few tips that you’ll want to be sure and do at anytime you begin to prepare foods.
First, don’t make the mistake of overfilling your pressure cooker. Anything over the two-thirds line is too much and can block off the vents. Next, be sure you add enough liquid so that you create enough steam in the cooker. Granted, most every recipe you will want to prepare will take this into account, but if you plan on creating your own new recipes, keep this in mind. Generally speaking, add up to one cup of liquid so that you can’t create the steam you’ll need to get the pressure up.
Something you might also want to keep in mind is that you really want to avoid cooking any foods that froth or rise up while cooking. For example, foods such as pasta, applesauce and oatmeal can rise up quickly and block off the vents.
